My longsword borders on one, so I figure I might be able to make one. I've never actually attempted, but hey. If I'm given the raw materials and plans, I could probably put together most weapons. My latest project is to put together a .45 revolver.

The good news. I have finally branched out into gunpowder weapons. The bad news is, I don't actually think I can find ammo for the darn thing. I have the gunpowder, I just need to find a bullet that fits a 16th century antique wheelock pistol

Robin, that's Great!

Those wheel-locks are hard to keep in tune, but are rewarding to shoot. Not much for speed, but elegance they have in droves.

Do you know the caliber? Both Overkill and I cast lead bullets for our guns, and if it's something that we already cast, we could probably hook you up.

I probably wouldn't be much help, but I'll do what I can if I can. As far as round balls go I only own a .457. In conicals I own a .375, .450 and .456 , all 4 of the above for cap & ball revolvers. I have 2 50 caliber moulds, a 50-250-R.E.A.L. and an improve minie at 360 grains. I also have a 20 gauge Lyman "diabolo pellet" mold and a LEE 12 GA mould, but can't remember the diameters right off the top of my head, but they may work. Slug you bore and get back to me on the inside diameter of your barrel. Do you have a set of dial calipers or a micrometer? After determining the size ball you need a mould is very cheap and you can get set up casting for a small amount of money.
Also, make sure you have real gunpowder, BLACK POWDER ( or a substitute), not smokeless powder. What does it say on the label, brand, type etc.

Erm, no. Not really. I know it's a gun. I know it shoots balls. I also know that it looks very complicated. As for calibre, I don't know how to measure that. But honestly, I have a powder horn. Does gunpowder keep if it's kept in a dry and secure location? The gunpowder is as old as the gun.

Robin,

If you'll take some photos of the gun using a ruler to show scale, we can probably tell a lot more about it. As for the powder, if it's as old as you say, then I probably wouldn't trust it. New black powder could be had pretty easily. I'd recommend only using real black-powder in the gun, and not substitutes, as real black powder will do a better job if the ball has more windage in the bore and isn't really a perfect fit.

Also be sure to have the gun looked over by a gunsmith before you try and shoot it. If there's too much pitting in the bore (quite common for any gun from the black powder era,, let alone one as old as a wheel-lock) the whole gun can change from gun to bomb instantly, and we don't want you to get maimed or killed.

When you're taking photos, us a standard ruler, and make sure you get a photo of the barrel end as well, hold the ruler across the bore so we can estimate size.

I got some measurements, if that helps. I did the sensible thing. Got it checked over by someone who knows what they're doing. It is still in fireable condition. Bore needed drilling, so I had them do that, Bore's about two inches wide. 2.1 if I had to say exactly, and it's six inches long. That's measuring from the trigger mechanism. Black powder's proving hard to find though. It appears that it's illegal here. As in you can't actually go to a store and buy it. Stupid gun laws.

That's not a huge collection, but you seem off to a fine start Wraith.

Blackpowder is hard to find everywhere, the shipping regs are tough here in the States so most outlets have switched to substitutes like Pyrodex. Since you have someone local who knows old guns, they should be able to help you get the needed supplies to help you shoot them.

My list isn't overly long.
Handguns: Springfield XDm 3.8 (my carry gun), Taurus PT945, Ruger P89, Taurus Model 85 Ultrlight, Norinco 1911A1, and my pride and joy an old family heirloom an original brass framed Confederate model of the Colt 1851 Navy.

Rifles: Bushmaster M4, DSA ZM4, Model 1 AR15, Winchester '94, Marlin 336, SMLE No 4 Mk 2, Iver-Johnson M1 carbine, Ruger Mini 14.

Shotguns: Just the one, a Mossberg 835 Ultimag. I've never been much of a shotgunner. Looks like I may be getting a Mossberg 500 soon though.
