books everyone should have

Get an EMT text book.  They are easy to understand and give you some very serious training on how to handle trauma injuries.  They also show you how in improvise using what you have on hand if you don't have an item handy. 

I think people sometimes over look the fact that the chances of having a Doctor handy isn't going to help, much less a field combat surgeon.  You might break an arm falling down while searching a building.  The world will be come a dangerous place when there is no one around to maintain it, and more so if there's no one around to patch you up.  Get a fairly serious injury when you are alone, and life gets very, very difficult.

 That's a great idea about the EMT manuals. I have a few EMT books myself, a warning to those with weak stomachs, the pictures of injuries in some of them are graphic and not for the faint of heart, but then again neither is the zombie apocalypse.

Good Point Overkill.  I should have mentioned the graphic nature of the injuries that are shown.  They are NOT just for show, they are real injuries.
